Betty Dodd is a Christian. Her mother was an Everson, the family of Swedish heritage that owned Valley View Hot Springs. Her father was a fundamentalist Christian and a carpenter. They lived on rented land on Rito Alto Creek where she raised and milked goats. She completed a correspondence course at a Bible Institute in Missouri and delighted in preaching sermons on the Epistles of Paul. She could not carry a tune, but delighted in the hymn, "My hope is built on nothing less" with the chorus: "On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sifting sand." Together with her father she ministered for many years at the Community Church in Moffat.
