Danger from lightning is a big higher then usual in Crestone due to the high number of thunderstorms during July and August associated with the Wikipedia:North American Monsoon. As the general risk is about 1 in a million, and there are less than a thousand people in the area, the increased risk results in the probability that a person in the Crestone area might be killed by lightning once every 800 years or so. Not a problem, unless it happens to be you...

One tip. Don't stay on top of a mountain peak during a thunderstorm admiring the Wikipedia:St. Elmo's fire and taking pictures of your companions' hair standing on end.
