Young Kochia shoots

Kochia, Bassia scoparia, is an invasive weed which widely infests disturbed ground in Crestone. It is a tumbleweed which spreads rapidly. Stands, or windblown piles of Kochia are a fire hazard. Due to their oily seeds they burn hot. Kochia is not a noxious weed as defined by the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
