Aleksandr Bogdanov was an early Bolshevik theorist who advanced ideas which were eventually repudiated by Lenin. His theories, set forth in Empiriomomism (1904-1908), attempt to reconcile Marxism with the empirio-criticism of Ernst Mach and Richard Avenarius. Lenin's work of refutation is Materialism and Empiriocriticism. Bogdanov was a leader of a left deviation from Bolshevism, the "recallists" which broke with the Party in 1909. They opposed participation in the Duma. He died in 1928.
