Blood-borne disease

A blood-borne disease is one that is spread by contamination by blood.
Examples include:
- AIDS
- the various forms of hepatitis
- West Nile virus
- parasites
- and others...
It should be noted that many blood-borne diseases can also be transmitted by other means.
Blood for blood transfusion needs to be screened for blood-borne diseases.
Needle exchanges are an attempt to reduce the spread of blood-borne diseases in intravenous drug users.
