Brian A. Hoey is a member of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Marshall University. He was awarded his doctoral degree in Anthropology by the University of Michigan. His dissertation research was completed while a pre-doctoral fellow at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation's Center for the Ethnography of Everyday Life (CEEL) at the University of Michigan. After he finished his dissertation fieldwork in Northern Michigan, he remained there for two years while continuing to conduct research and writing on non-economic, urban-to-rural migration in the American middle-class. He may have coined the term "lifestyle migration" in connection with that work.
