Dumbing down

Dumbing down is usually a derogatory term which refers to the simplifying of a subject, often education, news and TV among others, compare with grade inflation.

Example:

In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (movie) movie version, and its sequels, the language was simplified in comparison to the text of the book version.
