Effect can be used in several different ways:

  • Cause and effect are the relata of causality. However, without considering the matter of causality something effects something else if there is interaction between them.
  • In movies and other media, sound effects are artificially created or enhanced sounds.
  • In music, an effects unit is commonly used to manipulate the sound of musical instruments

Occasionally, users of English confuse the word "effect" and "affect", the latter refers to the influence of something on another person or object.
