Jim Acho (b. 1970) is an American attorney and editor of the sports blog SportsReviewMagazine [1]. Acho is known for an acerbic wit and nostalgic writing style that have made SRM one of the most-visited independent sports websites on the internet. Acho authored "The Foolish Club," a book about the AFL in 1997. Acho himself described the book as "not so successful" on the Sports Review site.

Personal

Acho graduated from Detroit Catholic Central High School (1988) and from the University of St. Francis (Ft. Wayne, IN) in 1993. He was a walk-on basketball player and reserve, though he was elected co-captain in 1992. Acho was a member of former NBA player Jim Holstein's last team at St. Francis. Acho's bio states that he coached small college basketball. He has made reference on the website to being of Chaldean heritage.

Legal

Acho practices law at the firm of Cummings, McClorey, Davis & Acho[1] and was one of the attorneys who represented Major League Baseball alumni in a lawsuit against MLB. The class of alumni, who played from 1947-1979, were seeking pensions and medical benefits. Acho was approached to take the case by Ernie Fazio, upon recommendation of Bo Belinsky, whom Acho had represented earlier.[2] The class action sued MLB and Commissioner Bud Selig. Los Angeles District Court Judge Manuel Real threw the case out.[3] Acho was featured in this NY Times piece by Pulitzer Prize winner Dave Anderson.

Acho represented Steelers linebacker Larry Foote in this assault charge. He also represented Michigan defensive end Brandon Graham in this disorderly conduct charge. While the law firm's website states that he has represented or actively represents several NFL players, he is not a registered agent on the NFLPA website, so his representation is apparently limited to that of legal counsel. Acho apparently does serve as an agent for college coaches.

Sports Review Magazine Blog

The Sports Review website does not appear on any listings of most popular sports blogs, but it has been frequently referenced by national writers and analysts, and Acho appeared on Fox Sports and ESPN radio affiliates. Acho's college football picks were distributed on several sports radio stations in 2008.

Acho is apparently on friendly terms with actor/comedians Randy and Jason Sklar, who have referred to him (*most recently on March 27, 2008) and Sports Review before while guest hosting the Jim Rome Show.

Family

Acho's wife Shari Acho is Associate Athletic Director at the University of Michigan. Acho lives in Farmington Hills, MI with Shari and daughter Meghan.
