A rotor is a rotating part of a machine, as in a motor, a pump or a helicopter. The part of the machine that does not rotate is called the stator.
Rotor is also the name of the 8 km. long space statsion orbiting the terrestrial moon Erythro, which arbits the planet Mega in Isaas Asimov's 1989, 1990 science fiction novel Nemesis.
