Tamil may refer to:

• either a member of the Tamil people who live mostly in Tamil Nadu state in south-eastern India, in the north and east of Sri Lanka and in Malaysia and Singapore,
• or to their Tamil language, one of the Dravidian tongues once spoken widely across the Indian subcontinent. Historians estimate this language to be one of the oldest in the world and comparable in age to the other ancient Indian language Sanskrit.
