The Wealth of Nations (1776) by Adam Smith was a critique of mercantilism and a synthesis of the emerging economic thinking of his time.
Smith's book is usually considered to be the beginning of modern economics.
The full title is: An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations.
