Titan is the largest of the planet Saturn's 15 moons. Discovered by Christiaan Huygens in 1655, Titan is larger in diameter than the planet Mercury, more massive than the planet Pluto, and the second largest moon in the solar system after Ganymede. Titan has long fascinated scientists and space development enthusiasts because it is the only moon in the solar system with a significant atmosphere. In Arthur C. Clarke's 1976 Imperial Earth, Titan's atmosphere and relatively low gravity makes it the primary fuel depot for space transport.
