The menu to change your account settings is available on every page. It is at the top of the page above the tabs and titled my preferences.

Some of its features are:

Set your language of preference.
Set an email address, allowing users to send email to you.
Set your local time, the default time zone for everyone is what used to be called Greenwich mean time (GMT) but is today called coordinated universal time UTC. See [1] for some explaination. This feature is applied when you sign an article, it sometimes makes it easier to trace the timing of people's posts so you can understand what happened.
The appearence of wikinfo's pages can be changed in that menu with the SKINS option.
You could provide your real name that would then be applied to signed articles that you create.
The SEARCH tab within my preferences defaults to searches that will be useful to readers who browse wikinfo's many articles. If you choose to edit wikinfo, then there are additional pages that are helpful to an editor. For example, the default SEARCH settings don't include some help pages and don't include template pages. There is where you change your preferences for search.
