This has historically been regarded as a notably disadvantageous position, as it renders the resources inherent in the sea (such as [[fishing]] and transportation) inaccessible; thus one notices that, in many cases, countries make a particular effort to avoid being landlocked, and those that remain landlocked tend to be left behind.
