Mechanical is used to describe machinery

A mechanical is one of the five characters in A Midsummer Night's Dream who perform Pyramus and Thisbe on behalf of Theseus and Hippolyta as well as the Lovers. They are called mechanical because they all have jobs mending or fixing. They are:

• Nick Bottom, the Weaver, who plays Pyramus
• Peter Quince
• Starveling
• Snout
• Flute
