Phil Ochs was an American singer-songwriter of the folk music revival of the 1960s, a friend and contemporary of Bob Dylan, Tom Paxton, David Blue and other similar singers, born in El Paso, Texas on December 19 1940.

While Ochs began, like others of the movement, with mostly protest and anti-war songs, he later moved into more poetic and personal material. After a long dry period in which he wrote very few songs, he apparently commited suicide on April 9, 1976. Phil Ochs is probably best remembered today for his song I Ain't Marching Anymore.
