Costco is a chain of discount big box retailers headquartered in the United States but with substantial outlets in other developed countries. Its business model is to offer a limited selection of basic products at reduced prices to individuals and small businesses which pay a small membership fee. It is notable for its popularity with the public and for offering decent wages and benefits to its employees.
Costco has 634 locations, 454 in the U.S., but also in other developed countries with a middle class with substantial disposable income such as Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Australia. Costco offers some online retailing and services, such as auto insurance, through affiliates to members who may be unable to access its stores. For example, HP computers may be configured and ordered online.
