Jade is a gem favored by Chinese and other Asian people. Some jade is mined in appalling condition in Myanmar and is the subject of international sanctions.[1] Jade, in the form of jadeite, is a rather common rock which can be mined, as of 2013, at the cost of about $500 a ton. It retails at over $100,000 a ton with the difference going to taxes, corruption, and middle men, as well as to craftsman and artists who make jewelry and artifacts from it.
