Socially owned intellectual property is software and techniques which are accessible to individuals and groups engaged in trade. Software is subject to copyright but some software is in the public domain or considered not subject to copyright. Many programs have been licensed under open source copyright licenses. Software and techniques use in robotics is especially important.
