Podemos is a political party in Spain. It has its roots in popular protests against the conditions resulting from the 2008–15 Spanish financial crisis, the anti-austerity movement in Spain. It is a populist social democratic movement, which, as of 2016, was increasing in appeal. Some of its leaders, young political scientists, advised the Hugo Chávez government in Venezuela, a history which is an issue in the Spanish political campaign underway in 2016.
