The Pyongyang restaurant chain is chain of restaurants in Asia which is operated by the government of North Korea. Located in popular tourist destinations throughout Asia the restaurants offer entertainment and fine food. The performers, who double as staff, serve three year tours of duty. Payment is in U.S. dollars. The atmosphere is non-political, offering South Korean tourists a rare opportunity to associate with North Koreans. There are restaurants in Bangkok and Pattaya, Thailand; Jakarta, Indonesia; Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, Cambodia; Vientiane, Laos; Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia;[1] Kathmandu, Nepal;[2] and other locations.[3]
