It has a liberal capitalist editorial policy which emerged during the early 20th century; previously it had a conservative editorial policy. Since it has been behind a paywallThis is a link to a Wikipedia article. which permits free viewing of only 10 articles per month by non-subscribers. It is generally a reliable source; however, at times, such as the leadup to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, it has reflected U.S. government policy, and propaganda. This is due to its practice of cultivating close relationships with U.S. officials, particularly intelligence agencies, who thus are easily able to plant misinformation in the newspaper in crucial situations.
